If you want to track which traffic source your visitors used to get to your website within ClickFunnels, you can add UTM parameters to your Funnel Step URL before sending traffic to it.
First Step: Create your Campaign
Inside your ClickFunnels account, open the Funnel Step containing the form you would like to track.
You will be adding parameters to your Funnel Step URL so you can track the traffic in ClickFunnels.
Copy your Funnel Step URL.
Go to this link: https://ga-dev-tools.appspot.com/campaign-url-builder/
Paste your Funnel Step URL in the *Website URL input field.
In this example, we will use the Funnel Step URL https://somename.clickfunnels.com/optin but you will use your actual Funnel Step URL when adding parameters.
You will name the Campaign Source.
In this example, we will use the name "Twitter". (This might be a memorable name if you are tracking traffic from Twitter.)
The Google Campaign Builder will generate a campaign URL that you can Copy or Shorten to use for any promotional channels you want.
Second Step: Add a Custom Input Field to Your ClickFunnels Form
Inside your ClickFunnels account, open the Funnel Step containing the form you would like to track. (NOTE: Your form must at least contain an email field and a button set to Submit the Form.)
Add a custom field element to your form. This custom field element will be used to track which parameter you set in the Google Campaign Tool.
Add as many custom input fields as needed based on the parameters you set using the Google Campaign Tool. (Campaign Source is the only required parameter but you can include more if your situation needs it.)
Required Settings (Repeat this step for as many parameters you created)
In the page editor:
- Set the CUSTOM TYPE name to: utm_source (this changes depending on the parameter used - i.e. utm_medium)
- Do not set to 'Required'
- If you do not want your visitors to see this information, click the eye button to HIDE the element.
SAVE your changes.
When a visitor uses this URL link, they will be directed to your webpage. Once your visitor submits the form on your Funnel Step (webpage), their contact record will be updated to include the Additional Information Utm Source 'Twitter'.
You can view this Additional Info in the contact profile dashboard and sort contacts by the UTM Parameter in your ClickFunnels Stats.
Finding the UTM Parameter for a Contact
Inside your ClickFunnels account, click the Contact tab at the top of the funnel page dashboard and then the Edit button for the contact profile you want to view.
Select the Additional Info tab on the left to view the Utm Source Value recorded as "Twitter".
Sort or Filter in Your Stats Tab
- Click the Stats tab at the top of your funnel page dashboard.
- Click the small Filter button on the left
- Type in the name you created for Traffic Source (ie. Twitter)
- Click the Apply Filter button
Congratulations! You have successfully created URL links that will track leads and sales inside your ClickFunnels account!
